Over here from Gavin's True Crime & Wine night after watching Dancing for the Devil (& the Jonestown one last week). As a Christian I am just in the live chat yelling, IF SOMEONE SAYS THIS TO YOU, IT'S A LIE! RUN!!!, lol. It is so infuriating how these people pray on others' need for community & twist things to fit their own needs. Talking about flirty fishing or having sex to "save" others... have you (cult leader) even read the Bible? If anyone tells you "the Bible says .... ", always do your own research! If a preacher says, "trust me, I have the word of God" but doesn't encourage you to read it for yourself, that's a huge red flag. Turn & run!!! Very interesting video. I haven't read those 2 books, but cults are definitely a fascinating topic. Although we do tend to tie religion to cults, it is interesting that This Might Hurt doesn't actually have any religion in it & is a good reminder that anyone seeking community could fall into a trap.

I was so sad I missed this live! When I read this book, I HATED it. Couldn't find anything redeeming. But now after hearing 2 hours of your thoughts, I can find much more perspective and understanding of the stories so I really appreciate it!! Never felt more dumb though!!

I'm coming back to this video years later to say that I recently thought I had found one of the books you had talked about in this video, and I read it and kept waiting for vampires to be a part of the story but the book I read was The Secret History and not The Historian 😂

Only thing I think that is missing is a tab where you can see all the covers of the books you've read. Like the 24 in 24 but for all the books you've read this year. I wonder if it's possible next year to have an option for the bookshelf to be colour coded based on your star rating? Other than that this is incredible thanks for all your hard work!

apparently I read they were here before us in February of '23 and I gave it 5 stars! according to my review on GR, I especially loved the last story. I'll probably reread it though cuz I could not tell you a single thing about any of the stories 😂 I don't have KU anymore so I hope I can still find the books!
